Thursday 1 December classmate interview

Grades close tomorrow. Nothing will be accepted after class on Friday.

In class you are interviewing your assigned partner. These conversations should take about 15-20 minutes each. You are using the techniques employed in the Elvis Costello interview. Note that the tone is informal and not at all aggressive. You are getting to know a peer. You want to create a warm atmosphere in this interview. The quotes will be integrated into the narrative.

1. First write out six questions that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. You might not use all of them, for you’ll be responding to some of their responses and hence perhaps following a different line of thought. Let the conversation flow naturally. When you are finished, you should have some insight into this person; this is not just the student who occupies space in the classroom. Write down specific words / phrases of the interviewee.

When you go to write the interview, which is due by the end of class on Monday, start with the setting and a positive observation about the person’s attire or demeanor. Let your audience feel they are sitting in your spot. Put your questions into the narrative; similarly, interject the inteviewee. DUE AT THE CLOSE OF CLASS ON MONDAY.

Tomorrow I'll take photos, which with your interviews will be posted on the blog. Take

Your second interview is to be someone from outside the school and not a peer. It may be a family member. You should conduct this over the weekend. Again prepare your questions. This time however the format is like the Malcolm X / Alex Haley interview. The questions should be substantial. You might consider recording the words to write the interview up more accurately.
YOUR SECOND INTERVIEW IS DUE AT THE END OF CLASS ON WEDNESDAY. On Thursday. we move on to another topic. Don't forget to take a picture. This interview will not be posted.
